Canutillo ISD Gives All Students Free Access to High School Sports Events

Canutillo, Texas – The Canutillo Independent School District announced a new initiative aimed at strengthening school spirit and uniting families across the district. Effective immediately, all students enrolled in a Canutillo ISD school for the current academic year will receive free admission to every Canutillo High School athletic event.

How the program works

To take advantage of the free‑admission policy, students must meet a simple verification requirement:

  • High school and middle school students present their current Canutillo ISD school identification card.
  • Elementary students wear a Canutillo ISD‑branded shirt.

Students who cannot provide an ID card or are not wearing the district shirt will be asked to pay the standard student admission price.

Why the district is offering free tickets

Superintendent Dr. Josue Borrego explained that the program is designed to encourage students to support their classmates, deepen connections throughout the district, and foster a sense of pride in the Canutillo ISD family. “We want our students to feel connected to their schools and proud to be part of the Canutillo ISD family,” Borrego said. “There is nothing better than seeing our students come together to support their classmates, celebrate our schools and fill the stands with Eagle pride.”

Impact on families and season passes

For families that have already purchased a student season pass, the district assures that no additional steps are required. Existing season‑pass purchases will be automatically refunded to the original form of payment, eliminating any inconvenience.

The free‑admission policy applies to all athletic events hosted by Canutillo High School, including football, basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, and track & field, for the remainder of the school year.

Community response

Parents and community members have welcomed the move, noting that it removes a financial barrier for many families and encourages broader attendance at school events. “My kids love cheering on the Eagles, and now they can bring their friends without worrying about ticket costs,” said local parent Maria Hernandez. “It really brings the whole community together.”

Local businesses anticipate increased foot traffic on game days as more families gather at the stadium, potentially benefiting nearby restaurants and retailers.

Looking ahead

The district plans to monitor attendance figures and community feedback throughout the season. If the program proves successful, officials may consider extending similar initiatives to other district activities, such as performing arts productions and school assemblies.

By removing the cost barrier and emphasizing shared pride, Canutillo ISD hopes to cultivate a stronger, more connected community where every student feels valued and motivated to support their peers.
