Scottsdale’s waterfront will transform into a ten‑day outdoor art exhibition Nov. 6‑15 as Canal Convergence celebrates its 15th anniversary. Organized by Scottsdale Arts, the free festival highlights the theme “Western Nature,” exploring the landscapes and cultures of Arizona, the Southwest and the broader American West.
Art, Light and Performance Along the Canal
Visitors can stroll the Arizona Canal to experience large‑scale, light‑based artworks that illuminate the riverbanks after dark. In addition to the visual installations, the program offers live music, dance performances, artist workshops, educational tours and a variety of community activities designed for families and art lovers alike.
Food, Drink and Family Fun
A selection of food trucks will serve a range of cuisines, while a beer and wine garden provides a relaxed setting for adults to enjoy local brews and vintages. All amenities are free and open to the public.
Scottsdale Arts’ Busy November Schedule
Canal Convergence anchors a packed November calendar for Scottsdale Arts. The Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts will host North Mississippi Allstars on Nov. 8, followed by singer‑songwriter Marc Broussard with opening act Cristina Vane on Nov. 17. Parsons Dance returns on Nov. 21, marking its first appearance at the center in eight years. The Scottsdale Symphonic Orchestra presents “Color Comes to Life,” featuring music from animated films, on Nov. 22, and the month concludes with “Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock LIVE” on Nov. 28.
SMoCA’s Special Programming
The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) will host a sound‑bath led by Melinda Milton on Nov. 19 as part of its Glow Up @SMoCA series. Ongoing exhibitions through November include “Desert Perspectives,” which showcases artists examining the Southwest’s environmental, cultural and historical landscape, and “Model Home” by Alejandro T. Acierto, a work that reflects on development and population growth in the desert.
Community‑Focused Exhibitions
Other SMoCA shows feature “What the Earth Keeps,” an installation by Desert ArtLAB exploring ecology and cultural memory, and “Mark + Making,” highlighting pieces from the museum’s permanent collection. At the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, “ArtSpark #1” displays works by artists in Scottsdale Arts’ professional development program, while “Club Creatives” presents artwork created by teens from two Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale branches.
