Callaway and Good Good pull controversial driver ad after backlash over violent video

Atlanta – The golf industry faced a fresh controversy this week when Callaway and the social‑media golf brand Good Good released a promotional video for a co‑branded driver that featured a violent encounter. The clip opened with Good Good co‑founder Garrett Clark shoulder‑checking Alexis Miestowski to the ground as she reached for his driver.

The video was quickly removed after drawing widespread criticism for depicting aggression toward a woman. Both companies issued apologies. Callaway CEO Chip Brewer said the ad was approved in error and that the content “does not reflect our values” and that the company is “unequivocally against discrimination, domestic violence, or threatening behavior of any kind.” Good Good also apologized, reaffirming its mission to make golf more inclusive.

PGA Tour response

PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp, speaking at Atlanta’s East Lake Golf Club, said the incident was “concerning” and not aligned with the Tour’s values. He described Good Good’s initial reaction as “defensive and late,” but noted that the brand had shown improvement in the past 24 hours. Rolapp added that the situation remains fluid and the Tour will continue to monitor it.

Background on Good Good and the partnership

Founded in 2020, Good Good has grown from a content‑creation channel into a merchandising brand, known for its stylized hats and influencer‑driven approach to golf. The company recently became the title sponsor of the Good Good Championship, scheduled for November in Austin, Texas, marking its first major partnership with the PGA Tour.

The controversy highlights the tension between the PGA Tour’s long‑standing, conservative image and the newer, internet‑savvy personalities that are attracting younger fans. While the Tour has embraced influencers to broaden its reach, the incident underscores the challenges of aligning brand values across very different audiences.

What’s next?

Both Callaway and Good Good have pledged to review their approval processes to prevent similar missteps. The PGA Tour said it will continue to evaluate the partnership and its impact on the upcoming championship.
