Californians who have never purchased an electric vehicle before can receive a one-time rebate of $3,500 under the 2026-2027 state budget signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Eligibility Requirements
The rebate will be an instant point-of-sale discount at eligible dealerships. To be eligible, the new cars must be under $50,000, and used cars cannot be more than $25,000. Only three carmakers currently have products in the market that fit the definition: Tesla, Rivian, and Lucid Motors. However, Lucid Motors’ products are over $70,000, making them ineligible for the rebate.
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is still finalizing agreements with participating automakers and dealerships before buyers can receive the discount at the point of sale.
