Calhoun County wildfire burns over 2,300 acres, state activates emergency center

A massive wildfire is raging east of Camden in Calhoun County, Arkansas, consuming more than 2,300 acres of forest and grassland, according to the state’s online wildfire dashboard.

State and local agencies mobilize

The Arkansas Division of Emergency Management (ADEM) has activated the State Emergency Operations Center to coordinate the multi‑agency response. ADEM officials say they are working with state, local and federal partners to monitor the fire’s spread, assess threats to nearby communities and critical infrastructure, and identify needed resources.

Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders posted on X that she is in contact with federal officials and is closely following the situation. She urged residents to heed the instructions of local officials and to stay informed as conditions evolve.

Road closures and evacuations

KATV in Little Rock reports that several county roads have been closed to allow firefighting crews safe access and to protect motorists. Evacuation orders have been issued for residents in the immediate path of the blaze, and shelters are being prepared for displaced families.

Local law‑enforcement and fire‑department personnel are assisting with the orderly evacuation of homes, while aerial assets and ground crews work to contain the fire. ADEM emphasized that situational awareness remains a top priority and that additional support will be provided as needed.

What residents should do

Authorities are urging anyone in the affected area to follow evacuation routes, keep windows and doors closed to avoid smoke inhalation, and stay tuned to local news for updates. Residents should also avoid the closed roadways and refrain from entering the fire zone without official permission.

As the firefighting effort continues, ADEM will provide regular briefings on the fire’s status, resource needs, and any changes to evacuation orders. The agency stresses that community cooperation is essential to protect lives and property.

Looking ahead

The emergency operations center will remain active until the fire is fully contained. Officials hope that coordinated efforts among state, local, and federal partners will bring the blaze under control as quickly as possible, minimizing further damage to the natural environment and surrounding neighborhoods.
