Caddo Parish law enforcement agencies are waiting for funding after the Caddo Commission’s Public Safety Committee delayed their requests. The committee is seeking more financial information from 12 agencies before making a recommendation on how to distribute the $2.8 million in funds.
Local Law Enforcement Needs
The City of Shreveport is requesting tactical equipment, including an armored vehicle, body armor, and ballistic shields. Smaller towns are seeking basic needs such as used patrol cars and traffic trailers.
Caddo Parish Commissioner Kris Kracman stated that the committee wants to ensure the municipalities are fiscally responsible and not just seeking funds without a plan. Police Chief Wayne Smith emphasized the need for newer equipment, citing the aging fleet and the threat of newer rifle rounds that can pierce bulletproof vests.
