C.A.S.T. for Kids Event Brings Joy to Special Needs Families at Lake Gladewater

Families from across East Texas gathered at Lake Gladewater for the annual C.A.S.T. for Kids fishing event, a cherished occasion designed for children with special needs. The event, held on a sunny Saturday morning, provided an opportunity for these children to enjoy a day on the water, supported by volunteer boaters and surrounded by their families and community members.

A Day of Joy and Community

Participants engaged in fishing, boat rides, and outdoor activities, creating lasting memories. Event director Jim Benkin emphasized the event’s deeper purpose, stating, “We just want these families to know that they’re loved and cherished by their community. Fishing is just how we do it.” The event aimed to foster a sense of belonging and care among families and volunteers alike.

Throughout the morning, children were paired with volunteer anglers who guided them through the fishing experience, ensuring a supportive and welcoming environment. Each child received fishing gear to take home, allowing them to continue enjoying the activity beyond the event.

Strengthening Community Bonds

The day concluded with a community meal and an awards ceremony, where participants were recognized for their catches, including honors for the biggest fish of the day. Organizers highlighted the importance of events like C.A.S.T. for Kids in strengthening connections between families and the broader community, providing encouragement and support that extends far beyond the shoreline.
