Zhang emphasized the importance of long-termism and delayed gratification in AI development, rather than relying on others’ output to achieve short-term success. He encouraged the company’s Seed AI research team to prioritize genuine technological breakthroughs over quick fixes.
The US has accused Chinese companies of using model distillation to extract capabilities from proprietary models, prompting concerns about intellectual property and fair competition. As a result, Washington has warned that Chinese companies could face financial sanctions or be placed on US trade blacklists.
