Plano police are investigating a burglary that took place in the early hours of Monday at Cutlery Collection, a specialty cutlery shop located in The Shops at Willow Bend Mall. According to store owner Karl Monk, the thieves cut through an extra security chain on the front door and entered the shop around 1 a.m., ransacking the workshop, backroom and display area.
Items taken
Monk reported that the burglars made off with a collection of high‑value swords, a variety of hunting knives, collectible and antique knives, and the helmet of “Rusty,” a set of armor displayed at the front of the store. The total value of the stolen merchandise is estimated at $50,000.
Police response
The Plano Police Department has opened an investigation but has not yet identified any suspects. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from the mall and nearby businesses, and they have asked anyone with information to contact the department.
Related incidents
Police noted that this is not an isolated event at the mall. The Dallas Morning News confirmed that another tenant, Pipe & Palette, suffered a burglary earlier this year, losing more than $8,000 in merchandise. The pattern of break‑ins has raised concerns among mall tenants about security measures.
Future of the mall
In a separate development, the city of Plano announced that The Shops at Willow Bend Mall will be demolished in 2027 to make way for a new Dallas Stars arena. The team selected the mall site for its future home in June and hired a design firm last month to begin planning the arena and surrounding entertainment district.
