The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is making live music accessible to more Marylanders with its Music for Maryland summer tour across the state. BSO musicians will perform a series of symphonic and chamber music concerts at various Maryland venues starting in July.
Concert Schedule
The concert series will kick off with a performance July 28 at 7 p.m. at the Mar-Va Theater Performing Arts Center in Pocomoke City in Worcester County. Next up will be a concert on Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Oxford Community Center in downtown Oxford in Talbot County.
These two Chamber Music for Maryland performances will feature small BSO ensembles. A couple days later, BSO members will perform an Aug. 6 concert at 7 p.m. at the Todd Performing Arts Center at Chesapeake College in Wye Mills in Queen Anne’s County. Rounding out the season will be an Aug. 7 concert at 7 p.m. at the Chesapeake Theater at Harford Community College in Bel Air in Harford County.
The later two orchestra concerts will be performed by a 40-member BSO ensemble, led by Nicholas Hersh, former BSO assistant/associate conductor and current principal conductor of the Baltimore Symphony Academy. At these shows, audiences can expect performances of Mozart’s Symphony No. 29 in A Major, Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte, and Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante in E-flat Major, featuring BSO musicians Agnes Tse on violin and Colin Sorgi on viola.
Music for Maryland was launched in 2022 to allow BSO to reach audiences farther away from the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore and The Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda. The Music for Maryland tour visited Harford and Queen Anne’s counties in summer 2023, and Talbot and Worcester counties in summer 2024.
A $750,000 operating grant from the state of Maryland is supporting the summer 2026 tour and the BSO’s year-round statewide service. All performances in the series will have pay-what-you-wish admission with a recommended donation of $10 per audience member. Advance reservations are strongly encouraged.
