Firefighters responded Wednesday, Aug. 12, to a vegetation fire burning near Jasper Road on the southeast edge of Springfield.
Sheriff’s deputies and other officials went door-to-door, evacuating homes north of the intersection of Mount Vernon and Jasper roads, along with Ivy and Holly streets, Pinehurst and 54th and 55th streets.
The Oregon Department of Forestry sent two engines, one bulldozer and overhead staff through mutual aid to help contain the fire.
