A second data center is being planned in Brookwood, with the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission recommending annexing and rezoning 374 acres for the project. The recommendation now heads to the Brookwood City Council for a final vote on September 15.
Project Details
The project, sought by Project Brookwood LLC on behalf of New York real estate developer Youngwoo & Associates, would be built on land currently owned by the company and additional property under contract. The land would be rezoned from single-family residential to light industrial to accommodate the development.
The data center would be separate from the 2 million square foot Applied Digital data center, proposed by a different developer on different land. The Youngwoo development is planned for a 374-acre parcel west of the 1,300 acres amassed by Applied Digital.
Community Concerns
Residents expressed concerns about the proximity of the data centers to Brookwood Middle School and the potential impact on the community. Mayor Joe Barger suggested that the school may need to be relocated due to the growth of industry in the area.
