Brooksville, Fla. – On Sunday afternoon, Hernando County deputies were called to a domestic disturbance on Audubon Drive after a family member caused trouble inside a home. Two adults locked themselves in a bathroom at approximately 2:37 p.m., prompting a 911 call.
Deputies encounter armed suspect
While the occupants were speaking with emergency dispatchers, they reported hearing gunshots from inside the residence. When deputies arrived, they found a man standing on the front porch of the house. According to Sheriff Al Neinhuis, the man opened fire toward the officers.
Three deputies returned fire, striking the suspect. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the suspect was hit, but has not released his current medical condition.
Investigation continues
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office has secured the scene and indicated there is no longer a threat to the community. Details about the underlying dispute that led to the domestic incident remain unclear, and officials have said the investigation is ongoing.
