Brewers weigh resting Jacob Misiorowski as postseason approaches

Milwaukee – With the Brewers locked in as the top seed and a first‑round bye, the club faces a crucial decision on its star pitcher, Jacob Misiorowski. The 24‑year‑old has dominated the 2026 season, posting a 0.79 WHIP, 227 strikeouts and a minuscule .154 batting average allowed over 155 innings. He rode a 25‑start streak without surrendering more than three earned runs.

That streak ended Wednesday at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs. Misiorowski lasted only four innings, giving up five runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five. Though not a disaster, the outing fell short of the elite standard he set earlier in the year.

Recent performance dip raises concerns

In his last four starts, Misiorowski’s numbers have slipped slightly, prompting questions about durability as he approaches the 200‑inning mark. The pitcher still averaged season‑level fastball velocity, but the increased workload has sparked debate among Brewers staff and analysts.

Former Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy weighed in on the MLB Now broadcast, drawing on his own experience with arm fatigue. “When I started leaking oil, taking a week or two off was tough,” Peavy said. “They’ve got to skip him a start or two and get him feeling fresh again. If he’s fresh, they can win the World Series.”

Why resting Misiorowski could matter

The Brewers sit atop the National League with a clear path to the postseason. Their offense, led by Jackson Chourio, Brice Turang, William Contreras, Andrew Vaughn and Jake Bauers, has been consistent, while the starting rotation and bullpen provide depth. Yet Misiorowski remains the centerpiece of any championship run.

Coach and front‑office officials must decide whether to protect the young ace by giving him a brief layoff now, preserving his health for a potential three‑start role in a best‑of‑seven NLCS, or to keep him on his current schedule and risk fatigue later.

What the Brewers could do

  • Skip one or two starts in the final regular‑season games, allowing Misiorowski to recover fully before the playoffs.
  • Maintain his current rotation, trusting his conditioning and the depth of the staff to manage workload.

Either choice will shape the Brewers’ postseason strategy. Fans and local sports commentators will be watching closely as the team finalizes its approach to what could be the franchise’s first World Series title.
