Brewers rally past Cubs despite Misiorowski’s rough start at Wrigley Field

Milwaukee – In a game that tested the resilience of the Brewers’ young rotation, right‑hander Jacob Misiorowski endured his toughest outing of the season at Wrigley Field, yet the club still secured a 9‑5 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

Misiorowski’s challenging start

Misiorowski, the 24‑year‑old who has been a leading candidate for the National League Cy Young Award, gave up five earned runs and four walks in just four innings. The five runs and four walks matched his career highs, a setback that came in sweltering, humid weather that left the mound slick and the grip on the baseball compromised.

“He’s going to learn a lesson from this,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said after the game. “He didn’t command his fastball and his delivery was off. He’ll need to tighten that up moving forward.”

Misiorowski struck out five batters but also issued a leadoff walk to Pete Crow‑Armstrong and surrendered a two‑run homer to Alex Bregman in the first inning. The Cubs added three more runs in the second, with Tyrone Taylor’s RBI single and a two‑run single by Bregman that gave Chicago a 5‑3 lead.

Brewers bounce back

Despite the early deficit, Milwaukee’s offense erupted. Outfielder Jackson Chourio, communicating through an interpreter, highlighted the team’s collective effort: “Today wasn’t his best day on the mound, but the group rallied and got the win.” Chourio also contributed a solo homer, his 21st of the season, as part of a four‑hit night.

The bullpen shouldered the remaining innings, delivering a six‑hitter. JoJo Romero, Antonio Senzatela, Abner Uribe, Aaron Ashby, and Trevor Megill each threw a scoreless frame, preserving the lead and allowing the Brewers to finish with a six‑run advantage when Misiorowski exited after 92 pitches, 53 of which were strikes.

“Electric. Awesome to have guys like that behind you,” Misiorowski said of the bullpen’s performance, noting that the team’s support helped him recover from a rough start.

Looking ahead

Misiorowski’s ERA rose to 1.97, still the best in the majors, and he remains the league leader with 227 strikeouts in 155 innings. The Brewers, now six‑and‑five in the NL Central, have won six of their last eight games, positioning themselves as serious contenders.

Murphy emphasized the need for consistency: “If he can command his fastball and tighten his delivery, he’s a dominant force. Tonight showed what happens when those pieces are missing.”

Milwaukee fans left Wrigley Field with a sense of optimism, confident that the young pitcher will adjust and that the team’s depth will keep them competitive throughout the season.
