Breakfast Stack Challenge invites Alabama schools and businesses to support local food bank

Alabama schools, churches, and local businesses have a new way to give back this summer. The Breakfast Stack Challenge, organized by WAKA Action 8 News in partnership with the Heart of Alabama Food Bank (HAFB), invites eligible organizations to gather breakfast food items, construct a creative “Breakfast Stack” display, and submit a photograph for contest consideration.

How the contest works

Participants may enter any eligible organization—public or private schools, nonprofit groups, and businesses—provided they meet the general eligibility criteria outlined by WAKA. Each organization can submit one entry, and there is no purchase required to enter or to vote.

All food items used in the stack must be donated to HAFB after the competition. The contest period runs from the announcement date until the public voting window closes, with all entries and votes recorded on WAKA’s official contest platform, which serves as the official record.

Submission and judging

Entrants must photograph their completed Breakfast Stack and upload the image through the contest platform. The People’s Choice Award will be decided by public voting, while all other awards are judged by a panel selected by WAKA. Judges evaluate entries based solely on the submitted photographs, using criteria that include creativity, presentation, and adherence to the theme.

WAKA reserves the right to disqualify any entry that is incomplete, unsafe, inappropriate, fraudulent, or otherwise non‑compliant with the official rules. Voting integrity is protected; any votes or entries found to be fraudulent may be removed at WAKA’s discretion.

Prizes and recognition

Winning organizations will receive recognition in one or more contest categories and may be featured in promotional materials across WAKA Action 8 News, HAFB communications, and sponsor platforms. By entering, participants grant permission for their photos and related materials to be used for promotional purposes without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law.

The contest also emphasizes safety and legal compliance. Participants must ensure that all food items are safe for donation and that their stack constructions do not pose hazards. WAKA and HAFB are not liable for any injuries, losses, or damages that may arise from participation.

Key dates and contact information

While the official rules do not list specific dates beyond the entry and voting periods, interested organizations should visit the contest page on WAKA’s website for the most current timeline and detailed eligibility requirements. For questions, participants can contact the contest administrators through the platform’s support channels.

The Breakfast Stack Challenge offers a tangible way for Alabama’s schools and businesses to demonstrate community stewardship, support families in need, and showcase creativity—all while reinforcing the shared values of faith, family, and liberty that underpin local life.
