Registration for the Bowie County Master Gardeners’ fall intern training is now open. The class will begin on September 3. To become a Master Gardener, one must receive special training in horticulture and contribute time as a volunteer in their county, working through the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension office to provide horticulture-related information to their communities.
Training Details
The training will include 35 hours of virtual and 20 hours of in-person training. Intern candidates must complete an online volunteer introduction course and pass a criminal background check prior to beginning the course. First-year interns will complete 55 hours of training, pass an examination, and then contribute at least 50 hours of volunteer service to AgriLife sponsored projects in Bowie County within one year.
Once an intern becomes a Certified Master Gardener, they must earn at least 10 hours of continuing education and volunteer at least 20 hours of service annually to be eligible to re-certify. For more information, contact the Bowie County Extension Office at 903-628-6702 or at [email protected].
