Boston Graduate Returns to India to Address Youth Unrest

India’s youth are expressing growing frustration over persistent issues such as exam scandals and high unemployment rates. This discontent is now manifesting in both online and street protests, with demands for accountability from the government.

Abhijeet Dipke’s Mission

Abhijeet Dipke, a 30-year-old Boston University graduate, is determined to channel this frustration into action. He founded the satirical Cockroach Janta Party, which has quickly gained popularity across India. Dipke plans to lead a protest at the Jantar Mantar monument in New Delhi, demanding the resignation of India’s education minister, Dharmendra Pradhan.

Dipke’s initiative comes in response to the high-stakes university entrance exams in India, which have been plagued by controversies such as exam paper leaks and technical failures. These issues place immense pressure on students and financial burdens on families.

Youth-Led Movements

India’s youth, who make up a significant portion of the population, are increasingly connected and determined to redefine ambition in a rapidly changing society. However, their optimism is tempered by high unemployment rates, with nearly 40% of graduates aged 25 and under without jobs.

The Cockroach Janta Party emerged after Chief Justice Surya Kant’s remarks, perceived as derogatory towards unemployed youth, sparked outrage. The party has gained over 22 million followers in a week, using satire to capture the anger of the youth.

Dipke and his supporters plan to conduct a peaceful protest, seeking police approval before proceeding to Jantar Mantar. The movement aims to restore accountability in the system and address the concerns of India’s youth.
