Scotland fans have flooded Boston for the World Cup, and local bars are struggling to keep up with the demand. The city’s bars and restaurants have seen a significant surge in customers, with many establishments running out of beer.
Beer Shortage Hits Boston
The Haven, a Scottish restaurant and bar in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, has gone from ordering four kegs of beer a week to 50 kegs for this week alone. Other bars have also sold out of popular beers, including Tennent’s Lager, and have had to triple their orders to meet the demand.
The influx of Scotland fans has put a strain on the city’s beer supply, with some bars running out of their most popular beers. Sam Adams, a Boston-based brewery, has sold over 4,000 pints of its Boston Lager, resulting in 90 empty kegs.
City Officials Join in on the Fun
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has been attending fan festivals and watch parties, and Governor Maura Healey has declared June 18 as World Cup Fans Appreciation Day. The governor even poured drinks for patrons at The Haven, although the bar’s owner, Jason Waddleton, joked that she may need to work on her bartending skills.
