A heavy manufacturing transportation company, United Vision Logistics, is facing $24,000 in fines from Bossier Parish for transporting equipment without a parish permit. The company’s independent contractor, PDQ, was cited for the infraction, which occurred on Sligo and Mayflower roads.
Appeal Hearing
An appeal hearing was held before the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement board, a unit of the Bossier Parish Police Jury. Attorney Mark Perkins argued that PDQ was unaware of the parish requirement and that there was no warning signage on the particular roadway.
However, Brian Kendrick, director of the Enforcement Unit, stated that the state permit requires transportation companies to contact local authorities, and that United Vision Logistics had previously purchased 214 permits within the last four years. Kendrick also mentioned that the parish has signs at every port of entry indicating the need for a permit.
The board is expected to make a decision within a week. The proposed penalties range from $5,830 to $6,006 per truck, calculated based on the weight limit exceeded.
