Border chief Tom Homan conceded that fierce political attacks are successfully souring public opinion against federal immigration agents. During an appearance on The Dr. Phil Podcast, Homan stated that the left knows exactly what they’re doing by attacking U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to turn the American people against President Donald Trump’s legacy.
ICE Under Fire
Homan acknowledged that public perception of the agency has shifted amid ongoing public debate. He noted that the men and women of ICE are performing at the highest level ever, despite taking hits from both sides. The hard right says they’re not arresting enough illegal immigrants, while the left says they’re arresting too many.
Homan also addressed the issue of body-worn cameras for field personnel, stating that the lack of active deployment is due to a shortage of funding required to fully implement the system. He confirmed that the body camera equipment itself has already been purchased.
