The city of Boone is considering making changes to its animal control response. The city partners with Boone Area Humane Society for the services.
Proposed Changes
In a proposed new agreement, services would be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, except on certain holidays. The humane society would only respond to calls outside of those hours if it’s an emergency, like if an animal is injured or a danger to the community.
The new contract would end emergency responses for lost dogs or dogs that are healthy and friendly. The agreement also includes an 8 percent budget increase.
At this week’s city council meeting, the council agreed to revisit the proposal at a later meeting.
