Boeing Secures $131.2 Billion Federal Contract for F‑15 Fighter Program

The U.S. Department of Defense announced on Monday that Boeing has been awarded an indefinite‑delivery/indefinite‑quantity (IDIQ) contract valued at $131.23 billion for the F‑15 Eagle Crest program. The contract, awarded on a sole‑source basis, covers the production of new aircraft, systems integration, upgrades, and long‑term sustainment for the Air Force, Air National Guard and other defense customers.

Scope of work and timeline

The agreement calls for work to be performed primarily at Boeing’s facilities in St. Louis, Missouri. The ordering period runs through August 24, 2031, with an option to extend the period to August 24, 2036. The overall performance window is set to conclude by August 2037.

What the contract includes

Key elements of the contract include:

  • Manufacturing of new F‑15 airframes and related components.
  • Integration of advanced avionics, weapons systems and mission‑critical software.
  • Comprehensive upgrade packages to extend the service life of existing aircraft.
  • Organic depot maintenance capabilities to keep the fleet mission‑ready.

In addition to supporting U.S. forces, the contract authorizes Foreign Military Sales to Japan, Israel, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia and Poland, reinforcing the United States’ defense partnerships abroad.

Economic and strategic impact

The award represents one of the largest defense procurement contracts in recent history and is expected to sustain thousands of jobs at Boeing’s St. Louis plant and its supply chain. Analysts note that the long‑term nature of the IDIQ contract provides stability for the aerospace sector while ensuring the United States maintains a modern, capable fighter fleet.

From a strategic perspective, the F‑15 Eagle remains a cornerstone of U.S. air superiority. The new contract will enable continued modernization, ensuring the aircraft can meet evolving threats and integrate next‑generation weapons. The inclusion of foreign sales also underscores the importance of the F‑15 to allied air forces, enhancing interoperability and collective security.

Background on the F‑15 program

The F‑15 Eagle first entered service in the 1970s and has undergone multiple upgrades over the decades. The Eagle Crest program consolidates various modernization efforts under a single management structure, streamlining logistics and reducing lifecycle costs. By centralizing production, integration and sustainment, the Department of Defense aims to keep the fleet operationally effective well into the 2030s and beyond.

While the contract was awarded without competition, the Department of Defense cited Boeing’s existing expertise, established production lines and proven track record as justification for the sole‑source approach.

Looking ahead

As the contract moves forward, Boeing will coordinate with the Air Force, Air National Guard and international partners to schedule deliveries, implement upgrades and maintain the fleet. The long‑term nature of the agreement means that the company will continue to invest in its St. Louis facilities, workforce training and supply‑chain capabilities for the next decade and a half.
