A body found in Lexington, South Carolina, has been confirmed to be that of Elena Moore, a 39-year-old woman who vanished on June 11. The Lexington County Coroner’s Office announced the identification on Friday.
The cause and manner of death have not been released, and an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday. Additional information is expected to be released on Monday.
Moore’s body was discovered near a gym she was last seen leaving on June 11. A preliminary match was made based on a clothing description, according to Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green.
Green attributed the discovery of Moore’s body to a tip prompted by news coverage. He declined to comment on whether foul play is suspected in her disappearance.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is leading the investigation into Moore’s death.
