Rapid City, SD – The Black Hills Community Theatre (BHCT) is set to debut its first‑ever world premiere, The Four Horsemen!, a brand‑new apocalyptic comedy written by local playwright L.D. Potter. The production, aimed at audiences 14 years and older, will run on six evenings and three matinee dates at the theatre’s Studio Theater.
Performance schedule
Evening performances are scheduled for Oct. 30, Oct. 31, Nov. 6, Nov. 7, Nov. 13 and Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. Matinee shows will follow on Nov. 1, Nov. 8 and Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. All tickets are available through the BHCT website.
Plot and cast
The comedy follows the classic figures of War, Famine, Pestilence and Death as they grapple with the everyday annoyances of their eternal duties. As they navigate difficult coworkers, relationships with mortals, and the ups and downs of human history, the quartet begins to wonder why everything must end. The play’s tagline hints that the true apocalypse may be “the friends we made along the way.”
The cast includes Marcia Kahler as Death, Alyssa Baumgardner as Pestilence, Brady Jones as War and Wynter Miller as Poo‑Ka, Ms. Halibut, Dan the Pizza Man and others. Ryan Bozer portrays Famine on Oct. 30, Oct. 31, Nov. 1, Nov. 6 and Nov. 7, while Merlyn Q. Sell takes over the role for the remaining dates.
Creative team
Director Heidi Dehn leads the production, supported by assistant director Jonasia Nance, stage manager Katelyn Woten, set designer Karen Bialis, costume designer Adrian Vopnford, lighting designer Erin Hix and dramaturg Merlyn Q. Sell. The creative team has emphasized that the show contains mild language and is suitable for teens and older.
Special events
Opening night on Oct. 30 will feature a Haunted Backstage Tour, followed by a post‑show reception with treats to celebrate the cast and crew. A post‑show discussion with playwright L.D. Potter is scheduled after the Nov. 7 performance, offering audience members a chance to hear about the play’s inspiration and creative process.
