Comedian Bill Maher accepted the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center over the weekend. During the event, several comedians, including Maher and impressionist Matt Friend, took digs at President Donald Trump. Friend impersonated Trump, saying he was more deserving of the award.
Other celebrities, such as Whitney Cummings and Woody Harrelson, also made jokes about Trump during their sets. Cummings said she was warned not to mock the president, but she wasn’t scared. Harrelson referenced the removal of Trump’s name from the Kennedy Center facade, joking that they had ‘fixed it.’
John Mellencamp sang his hit ‘Pink Houses’ at the event and made a reference to Trump’s attempted renaming of the Gulf of Mexico. Maher and Trump have traded barbs over the last year, with the White House initially denying that Maher would receive the Mark Twain prize.
