The Daughters of the American Revolution, founded in 1890, is a membership organization for women who are direct descendants of American Revolutionary War patriots. Last year, the organization voted against a measure to restrict biological males who identify as transgender from joining.
Rep. Cline stated that the organization has abandoned its founding principles by embracing radical gender ideology. The bill would impose a requirement on the federal charter to limit membership to individuals who are biological females, while maintaining the existing genealogical and membership qualifications.
The term ‘female’ in the bill is defined as someone who naturally has, had, will have, or would have but for a congenital anomaly or intentional or unintentional disruption, the reproductive system that produces, transports, and utilizes the large gamete (ova) for fertilization.
Concerned Women for America, American Principles Project, Independent Women Forum, and the Heritage Foundation have expressed support for the legislation.
