The State Fair of Texas has announced a new partnership with Cavender’s Boot City and Resistol to give Big Tex a fresh Western look. Cavender’s, a Texas-based Western wear retailer, has collaborated on the design of Big Tex’s signature Western shirt, while Resistol, a renowned cowboy hat maker, will provide his trademark 95-gallon cowboy hat.
Partnership Celebrates Texas Heritage
The partnership brings together three Texas institutions with longstanding ties to the state’s Western heritage. According to Jennifer Schuder, senior vice president of customer engagement for the State Fair of Texas, the collaboration reflects the fair’s commitment to celebrating Texas craftsmanship and heritage.
Cavender’s has grown from a single family-owned store into one of the nation’s largest Western wear retailers, with over 130 locations across 19 states. The company has been inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame for its contributions to preserving Western culture.
Resistol, founded in Dallas in 1927, has spent nearly a century producing hats worn by ranchers, rodeo competitors, and entertainers, including George Strait and John Wayne. The partnership also carries historical significance, as Resistol introduced its first Western cowboy hat at the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition held at Fair Park.
Big Tex’s New Look
Big Tex, standing 55 feet tall, has greeted millions of fairgoers since becoming the State Fair’s official ambassador in 1952. His updated attire reflects the State Fair of Texas’ commitment to honoring the stories, traditions, and craftsmanship that continue to bring generations together.
