The Ojai Raptor Center, which is caring for Big Bear’s famous bald eagle Jackie, is now accepting messages of encouragement for the injured bird and its care team. Jackie was found grounded after a territorial fight with two other eagles on July 17 and has been undergoing treatment for her injuries.
Recovery Efforts
The center has been providing updates on Jackie’s condition, including a recent health update that shared the results of a contrast CT scan and bone marrow biopsy. Veterinarians say Jackie recovered from the anesthesia and is receiving oxygen as the team works to review the findings and previous test results.
Jackie and her mate Shadow became an internet sensation after a nonprofit installed a 24-hour live eagle nest camera above Big Bear Lake. The couple has had eight eaglets, with the latest two, Sandy and Luna, hatching over Easter weekend in April of this year.
Those who want to send cards or notes to Jackie and the care team can mail them to the Ojai Raptor Center at P.O. Box 182, Oak View, CA 93022. The center said it would display the messages for the team to see and that the words of encouragement have meant a lot to them during Jackie’s healing process.
