A ministry in Bexar County is working to ensure that local children have a safe and comfortable place to sleep. The Child of God Bed Ministry, in partnership with Woodland Church, has delivered over 600 handmade beds to more than 250 families across the county since 2021.
Supporting Families in Need
The ministry serves families connected with Texas Child Protective Services and some domestic violence shelters, with the goal of helping children stay safe at home and providing them with a stable place to rest. Many of the deliveries have gone to the East Side, particularly in Districts 2 and 3.
Volunteers build the beds by hand, which helps keep costs down while providing sturdy furniture for children who may be sleeping on the floor or sharing crowded beds with siblings. Each bed costs around $250 to make, which is more affordable than buying one.
The ministry is looking for more carpenters and volunteers with trucks to help deliver and assemble beds in families’ homes. Those interested can email [email protected] or call 210-493-4501.
