What happened
According to the Texas Tribune, DPS experienced a technical issue that prevented the transmission of voter‑registration data to the Secretary of State’s office. The problem has been resolved, and DPS has worked with the Secretary of State to identify and back‑fill the missing records, but the county still must process the untransferred applications.

Election Administrator Michele Carew issued a prepared statement confirming that the county has received “a little over 45,000 online Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) voter registration transactions that didn’t fully transfer into the State’s TEAM system.” She emphasized that the elections staff is already reviewing each application and will extend office hours to ensure all records are updated well before early voting begins.

Bexar County has dealt with registration backlogs before. In January, the office cleared a backlog of 7,000 registrations, and prior to the November 2025 election, more than 75,000 registrations required updates. In each instance, county officials attributed the delays to software issues within the Secretary of State’s office.
