Bernalillo County removed nearly 2,800 illegally dumped tires from two sites in the Pajarito Mesa area on Albuquerque’s West Side as part of an effort to reduce environmental hazards and improve public safety.
Environmental Impact
County officials announced the cleanup this week, saying the Solid Waste team collected 2,772 tires from the two illegal dumping locations. The project was funded through a grant provided by the New Mexico Environment Department.
According to the county, removing the discarded tires helps reduce wildfire risks, eliminates potential mosquito breeding grounds, prevents pollution, and protects nearby waterways from environmental contamination.
