The Deschutes Public Library is celebrating its grand opening of the new Central Library in east Bend. A weekend-long celebration is underway, featuring a free screening of the documentary ‘The Librarians’ and a panel discussion with local librarians.
Events and Activities
Oregon Poet Laureate Ellen Waterston will lead a writing workshop titled ‘At a Loss for Words’ from 2:00p.m. to 4:00p.m. Registration is required. The Bella Acapella Choir will close out the celebration with a performance beginning at 3:00p.m.
The Central Library, located at 61956 SE Santorini Street, officially opened on May 11th. The 103,343-square-foot building includes a children’s discovery space, MakerSpace, co-working area, public art, meeting rooms, and a café. The new library was funded through a bond measure approved by Deschutes County voters in 2020.
