A Bend teenager has achieved something extraordinarily rare: earning the Civil Air Patrol’s highest cadet honor while also receiving acceptance letters from all five U.S. military service academies, according to Central Oregon Daily’s ongoing “People You Should Know” series.
The Civil Air Patrol’s top cadet honor is one of the most prestigious recognitions available to young people in the program, awarded to cadets who demonstrate outstanding leadership, aerospace education, and physical fitness over years of dedicated service. Being accepted to all five military academies — a feat accomplished by only a handful of students nationwide each year — underscores just how exceptional this Bend young person’s achievements are.
The milestone is a proud moment not only for the student and their family, but for the broader Bend community, reflecting the caliber of young people growing up in Central Oregon.
Meanwhile, Bend’s streets were full of joy this Fourth of July as the city’s beloved Pet Parade drew crowds and continued what KTVZ described as a century-old tradition. Residents lined the route to cheer on four-legged participants and their proud owners, keeping alive one of the community’s most cherished Independence Day customs.
Together, these stories offer a snapshot of a community that celebrates both its storied traditions and the remarkable young people shaping its future.
