Bend Senior High opens first phase of new campus with modern classrooms

Bend Senior High School students are starting the 2026-2027 school year in a brand‑new learning environment. The first phase of the multi‑year campus replacement project was completed over the summer, giving families and teachers a modern space that reflects both educational innovation and local heritage.

What the new phase includes

The newly opened wing offers open‑concept classrooms designed to foster collaboration and flexible instruction. State‑of‑the‑art science laboratories replace older facilities, providing students with the equipment needed for hands‑on experiments in chemistry, biology and physics. Throughout the building, decorative details pay tribute to the school’s long‑standing mascot, the Lava Bear, linking today’s learners with generations of alumni.

Community and family impact

Parents in Bend have welcomed the upgrade, noting that contemporary learning spaces better prepare children for college and the workforce. The project aligns with the community’s commitment to strong families and quality education, core values that many local churches and civic groups champion.

School officials say the new classrooms also support differentiated instruction, allowing teachers to tailor lessons to individual student needs—a priority for families who value personalized, faith‑centered education.

Challenges ahead

While the first phase is complete, the district acknowledges that additional work remains. The second phase will address athletic facilities, additional classroom space and further enhancements to the campus’s infrastructure. Funding for the remaining phases is being secured through a combination of state grants and local bonds, a process that will require continued community involvement and oversight.

District leaders emphasize transparency throughout the construction timeline, inviting parents and residents to attend public meetings where progress updates and budget details will be shared. This open‑door approach reflects the administration’s respect for individual liberty and the right of citizens to stay informed about public projects that affect their neighborhoods.

Looking forward

With the first phase now in use, students and teachers are already experiencing the benefits of a more adaptable learning environment. Administrators are optimistic that the completed campus will become a model for other schools in Central Oregon, showcasing how modern design can coexist with tradition.

As the school year unfolds, the Bend community will watch closely as the remaining phases take shape, confident that the investment in education will yield stronger families, a more skilled workforce, and a brighter future for the city.
