Bend Humane Society hosts open‑house adoption event featuring sweet three‑month‑old pup Matt

Bend, Ore. – The Humane Society of Central Oregon is rolling out a family‑friendly Open House this Saturday, giving local residents a chance to meet a host of adoptable animals, including a gentle three‑month‑old puppy named Matt.

Matt the puppy: calm, curious, and ready for a forever home

Matt arrived at the shelter with his littermate, Logan, and both are expected to grow into large, sturdy dogs. Shelter staff describe Matt as unusually calm for his age. “He’s been with us for a few days and hasn’t been mouthy,” said Bekka, a volunteer with the Humane Society. “He’s just been gentle and sweet with all people.”

After a recent bath, Matt settled quickly for cuddles, showing off his soft speckled coat and big ears. He is expected to become available for adoption next week, but the shelter encourages prospective adopters to visit the Open House to get to know him and other animals in person.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and is designed to be a fun, community‑focused day. Activities include snacks, games for kids, giveaways, and prizes. Most importantly, the Humane Society is offering a steep adoption‑fee discount—ranging from 50 % to 100 %—for all animals available during the celebration.

“Our goal is to find homes for every animal in our care,” the shelter’s director explained. “By lowering fees and creating a welcoming atmosphere, we hope to connect families with pets that will enrich their lives.”

How to adopt and support local animal welfare

Anyone interested in adopting Matt or another shelter resident should arrive early, as space can fill quickly. Prospective adopters will need to complete a standard application, provide references, and agree to a brief interview to ensure a good match.

Even if you’re not ready to adopt, the Open House offers many ways to support the Humane Society. Volunteers are needed to help with animal care, event setup, and crowd management. Monetary donations, pet supplies, and blankets are also welcomed.

Why local adoption matters

Adopting a shelter animal not only gives a deserving pet a second chance, it also helps reduce the strain on local animal control resources. Each successful adoption frees up space for more rescued animals and supports the broader mission of the Humane Society to promote humane treatment of all creatures.
