Bench Warrant Issued and Recalled for Former Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin

In a recent development from Louisville, Kentucky, Jefferson County Family Court Judge Angela Johnson issued and subsequently recalled a bench warrant for former Governor Matt Bevin. The warrant was issued after Bevin failed to appear in person for a court hearing, opting instead to join via Zoom. This marks the second time in 2026 that Judge Johnson has issued a warrant against Bevin, with the first occurring in March.

Details of the Court Hearing

The hearing was part of an ongoing dissolution of marriage case between Bevin and his ex-wife, Glenna Bevins, concerning their son, Jonah Bevin. Judge Johnson had explicitly instructed Bevin to appear in person, a directive reiterated multiple times, including a reminder on the Wednesday prior to the hearing. Bevin cited ongoing property damage at his home as the reason for his absence, a justification Judge Johnson found insufficient. “I told you to be here. We told you multiple times to be here and reminded you to be here on Wednesday. Now based on what I’ve glanced at, you have the means to get a flight here. Property damage is not a sufficient excuse,” she stated during the hearing.

The penalty for failing to appear in court could have been 14 days in jail or a $250 fine. However, the bench warrant was recalled, allowing Bevin to avoid immediate legal consequences. The case continues to unfold, with Bevin’s next court appearance scheduled for July 28 in Jefferson County Family Court.

Allegations of Judicial Bias

Earlier in the year, Bevin’s attorneys sought to have Judge Johnson removed from the case, alleging bias against him. However, a court order filed in April denied this request, allowing Judge Johnson to continue presiding over the case. The ongoing legal proceedings have also involved a respondent’s notice of production against Bevin, requesting various financial documents, including checking account statements and his 2026 salary statement, to aid in counseling their son Jonah.
