Kyiv – In a statement posted on X, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed that Belgium has committed to transferring three F‑16 fighter jets to Ukraine by the end of this year. The agreement, described as “important,” will be carried out through an accelerated procedure to bolster Ukraine’s air capabilities amid its ongoing conflict with Russia.

Zelenskiy also highlighted that Ukraine has already received urgent deliveries of F‑16 ammunition from both Belgium and Spain, underscoring a broader pattern of European assistance. In his nightly video address, the president noted that the day before he had received a “very good” assistance package consisting of a NASAMS air‑defence system, a joint U.S.‑Norwegian development.
The Ukrainian leader thanked the United States and Norway for their continued support, noting that talks are underway to secure a steady supply of missiles for the Patriot air‑defence system, which remains critical for intercepting Russian ballistic missiles.
Efforts to Counter Russian Drone Threats
Zelenskiy reported ongoing tests aimed at improving the efficiency of Ukrainian interceptors against Russian jet‑powered drones, which fly higher and faster than conventional models. Of more than 100 Russian drones deployed on Tuesday, 29 were identified as jet‑powered, and Ukrainian forces had already downed 18 of those.
