A Beach Hazards Statement has been issued for San Luis Obispo County Beaches and Santa Barbara County Central Coast Beaches, effective from July 27 at 1:24PM PDT until August 1 at 5:00PM PDT.
Hazards and Impacts
The statement warns of dangerous rip currents and elevated surf, which can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can also wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore, increasing the risk of ocean drowning.
Residents and visitors are advised to remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. It is also recommended to stay off rock jetties, as they can be deadly in such conditions.
