Bastrop is witnessing significant growth with the development of three major projects: Sendero, Burleson Crossing East, and Bastrop West. These projects are in various stages of construction and are expected to bring new retail, dining, housing, and medical services to the area.
Retail and Road Updates
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is working on a $293 million update to SH 71, a 22-mile stretch of improvements aimed at alleviating congestion. The project includes updates to Tucker Hill Lane, Ross Road, and Kellam Road, among others.
In addition to these updates, Bastrop is also seeing a renewed effort to restore the Houston toad population. Over 1 million Houston toad eggs were released in Bastrop County this spring as part of a conservation effort led by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
A Bastrop resident, Camilo Chavez, is also making headlines with his appearance on Fox’s ‘MasterChef: Global Gauntlet.’ Chavez is bringing a mix of Texas flair and Mexican heritage to the show, which premiered in April.
A 90-day public comment period is currently open for the proposed groundwater ‘Desired Future Conditions’ for aquifers across Groundwater Management Area 12. This gives residents and stakeholders a chance to weigh in on long-term water planning decisions.
