Bastrop ISD Sees Gains in STAAR Scores

Bastrop Independent School District (ISD) has reported a 2.1 percentage point increase in the average share of students who scored at Approaches Grade Level or above on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) in 2026.

Subject-Level Gains

Math saw the largest subject-level increase, rising 7.8 percentage points year over year. Reading also increased, improving 1.5 percentage points, while eighth-grade social studies declined 3 percentage points.

The biggest grade-level gains came in seventh- and eighth-grade reading, which increased 13 and 11 percentage points, respectively. Reading scores in grades 3-5, however, declined.

Analysis and Next Steps

Evan Moilan, Bastrop ISD executive director for communications, stated that district officials are reviewing the results and plan to meet for further analysis. The district will use the results to refine instructional plans for the 2026-27 school year.

Final STAAR data for grades 3-8 is expected to be available publicly in the Family Portal on July 31.
