Bastrop County is gearing up to celebrate Independence Day with a series of events that honor the nation’s founding. The Bastrop County Historical Commission will host readings from the Declaration of Independence, along with related letters and speeches, plus music from the Bastrop Patriotic Singers at the Jerry Fay Wilhelm Center for the Performing Arts on June 28.
Fireworks and Family Fun
On July 3, the Bastrop River Club will offer vendors, live music, and fireworks from 5-9:30 p.m. The city of Bastrop will also host a pet and bike parade, activities, lawn games, vendors, live music, bounce houses, water slides, and fireworks on July 4 from 8 a.m.-9:30 p.m. in downtown Bastrop and Fisherman’s Park.
Visitors can sign the Declaration of Independence with a quill, make flags, play history trivia, sign the Revolutionary Wall, and win prizes for dressing up as an American history figure at the Bastrop County Museum & Visitor Center on July 4 from 9 a.m.-noon.

The event will offer a craft area to decorate kids’ bicycles prior to the parade, along with kids’ activities, downtown shopping specials, free food, a cake walk, cash bar, bingo, live music, and fireworks in downtown Smithville and Smithville VFW Hall & Grounds on July 4 from 9 a.m.-9:30 p.m.
Cupcake and cookie roulette, vendors, water slides, live music, a silent auction, and fireworks will be available at VFW Post 6115 in Elgin on July 4 at 3 p.m. Bastrop River Co. will offer a kayak-viewing experience for Bastrop’s Big Bang fireworks, with participants required to be at least 10 years old, on July 4 from 6-9 p.m.
