A new support group for caregivers of Alzheimer’s and dementia patients is launching in Bastrop on June 25. The Moments That Matter: Bastrop Alzheimer’s & Dementia Caregiver Support Group will offer education, encouragement, and resources for caregivers.
Support and Resources
Attendees can expect emotional support from others with similar experiences, education about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, tips for managing challenging behaviors, caregiving resources, and discussions on self-care and caregiver burnout.
The idea for this group came from Holly Parr, JOL hospice account executive, who saw the growing number of caregivers in Bastrop navigating difficult situations. Parr hopes to continue the group every month, with speakers from the health care community to help with education, care planning, community and self-care resources, and more.
The support group will meet on June 25 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Bastrop Regional Chamber of Commerce, 927 Main St., Bastrop. The event is free, and registration is available online.
