Bark Bar Food Truck Celebrates National Dog Day at North Domingo Baca Park

Albuquerque families and pet owners gathered at North Domingo Baca Park on Saturday morning for a special celebration of National Dog Day. The city’s own Bark Bar food truck, a mobile kitchen devoted exclusively to canine treats, was on site from 9 a.m. to noon, serving homemade pup cups and cookies to four‑legged guests and their owners.

Homemade, low‑sugar treats for pets

Founded in March by local couple Chad Rutter and his wife, Bark Bar was inspired by their beloved dog Phoebe and a desire to provide a healthier alternative to the sugary whipped‑cream treats that dominate the market. Each pup cup is made with fat‑free Greek yogurt and a choice of two natural flavor blends: xylitol‑free peanut butter with banana, or pumpkin with cinnamon. Customers can add a dollop of whipped cream, a drizzle of honey, and toppings such as dog biscuits, beef sticks, or additional cookies.

Rutter emphasized that the treats contain minimal sugar and no preservatives, artificial flavors, or artificial colors, aligning with the growing demand among pet owners for wholesome, responsibly sourced food for their companions.

Supporting local shelters

Beyond offering treats, Bark Bar uses the event to promote animal‑shelter involvement. The truck provided extra treats to dogs participating in the Bernalillo County Animal Shelter’s “Doggy Day Out” program, encouraging attendees to volunteer, foster, or adopt shelter pets. Rutter shared a personal note, recalling the loss of his rescue dog Mercy after fourteen years, and urged owners to cherish the time they have with their pets.

“You’re with them for only part of their lives, but you’re their whole life,” Rutter said, reminding the crowd that National Dog Day is an opportunity to deepen the bond with their furry family members.

Where to find Bark Bar next

Bark Bar travels to parks, pet‑friendly businesses, and community events throughout the Albuquerque area. Weekly locations and schedules are posted on the company’s Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok pages, allowing pet owners to plan visits and support the mobile venture.

The food truck’s presence at North Domingo Baca Park highlights the growing trend of family‑oriented, pet‑friendly activities that strengthen community ties while promoting responsible pet ownership. As more families seek wholesome, locally‑produced options for their pets, ventures like Bark Bar illustrate how entrepreneurship can serve both economic and charitable goals in Albuquerque.
