Former Bangladesh cricket captain Shakib Al Hasan’s home was attacked after he joined ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s media event. The attack occurred in Magura town, about 170 km southwest of the capital Dhaka, and caused a fire on the upper floor of the residence.

Shakib, a former Awami League lawmaker, has remained outside Bangladesh since the student-led uprising that toppled Hasina’s government in 2024. He faces multiple investigations, including allegations of murder, embezzlement, fraud, and money laundering.

Hasina, who has been living in New Delhi since August 2024, vowed to return to Bangladesh during the media event. Bangladesh’s foreign ministry condemned her appearance, describing it as an affront to the country’s sovereignty.
