Baltimore summer dining updates: new openings, restaurant week, and local festivals

As Baltimore heads into the final warm weeks of summer, local eateries and food‑related events are keeping the city’s dining scene lively. Below is a roundup of new restaurant openings, ongoing promotions, and upcoming festivals that families and food lovers can enjoy.

New openings and announcements

Flour & Wood at La Maison has begun a soft opening for dinner this weekend. Diners can expect a still‑evolving operation as the team fine‑tunes service and menu details.

The Alma Cocina Latina team is preparing a new venture called Candela. Interested patrons are encouraged to subscribe to the restaurant’s email list for updates on the launch.

In Timonium, the owners of Hightopps Backstage Grille have placed the property on the market as they plan for retirement.

According to the Baltimore Business Journal, Gratitude, a cocktail bar and Caribbean‑Asian‑Latin restaurant, will open in the former Foraged space in Station North.

The Verandah Kitchen celebrated its 15‑year anniversary last week, marking a decade‑and‑a‑half of service to the community.

On the other side of the city, Simply Marie’s in Canton will close after business on Sunday, Aug. 23.

Restaurant Week continues

Restaurant Week at Live! Casino and Hotel Maryland runs through Thursday, Aug. 27. Participating venues are offering three‑course prix‑fixe menus, including the new Vietnamese restaurant Truong Tien, giving diners a chance to sample a range of flavors at a fixed price.

Coffee Fest at Union Collective

Saturday brings an all‑day coffee festival at Union Collective. Attendees can watch a latte‑art throwdown, see roasting demonstrations by Vent, and taste coffee‑infused creations ranging from beer to ice cream. Competitions for cold brew and signature beverages add a friendly competitive spirit.

Spritz & Salumi party

On Sunday, Aug. 23, Cinghiale will host its annual Spritz & Salumi party, celebrating the end of summer with coastal Italian music, small bites, and a selection of spritz cocktails.

Sally O’s sixth anniversary

Restaurant Sally O’s marks its sixth year with an all‑you‑can‑eat crab feast on Tuesday, Aug. 25. The celebration includes crabs, shrimp, corn, drink specials, and buckets of beer to keep guests refreshed.

La Tomatina at Bar Dali

Bar Dali in Mount Vernon will highlight tomato season on Wednesday, Aug. 26, offering an unlimited gazpacho bar and a menu of tomato‑based cocktails for the evening.

Ekiben Night Market returns

The popular Ekiben Night Market returns Aug. 29‑30, occupying the 1500 block of Thames St. in Fells Point. The market will feature a wide array of food vendors from Baltimore and beyond. Tickets are on sale now and are expected to sell out quickly.

Upcoming celebrations

  • Aug. 30 – 5th anniversary celebration at The Milton Inn
  • Sept. 19 – The Big Dill Pickle Party
  • Oct. 21 – Chef Carlos Raba at Boordy Vineyards

These events and openings illustrate the vibrancy of Baltimore’s culinary community as summer draws to a close, offering families, friends, and food enthusiasts plenty of options to gather and enjoy local flavors.
