Baltimore City Community College announced today that President Debra L. McCurdy, PhD, will retire effective December 31, 2026. McCurdy, the college’s 14th president, began her tenure on May 1, 2019 after serving as president of Rhodes State College in Lima, Ohio.
Message to Faculty and Staff
In a heartfelt email to faculty and staff, McCurdy reflected on her time leading the institution through a period she described as “critical” and “a call for change and realignment.” She thanked the Board of Trustees for clear guidance, praised the collaborative spirit of faculty and staff, and highlighted the college’s progress in placing students first.
“Together we accomplished so much which now positions the College for its next stage of evolution,” McCurdy wrote. She expressed gratitude for the support of the Board, executive leadership, and the broader college community, noting that the institution will be in “good hands” as it moves forward.
Transition Plan
The Board of Trustees said a detailed transition plan will be shared with the college community in the next few days. The plan will outline the search for a new president and ensure continuity of operations, academic programs, and student services.
McCurdy’s tenure saw several initiatives aimed at strengthening academic pathways, expanding workforce development programs, and enhancing student support services. Under her leadership, BCCC continued its mission to provide accessible, high‑quality education to Baltimore’s diverse student body.
Looking Ahead
College officials emphasized that the upcoming leadership transition will build on the foundation laid during McCurdy’s service. Stakeholders, including local legislators who have historically supported the college, are expected to remain engaged as the institution charts its future direction.
“You deserve the very best and all good things to come,” McCurdy concluded, reaffirming her confidence in the college’s continued success.
