As the last weekend of summer comes to a close, many families in Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley are preparing for the first day of class. Parents and students are setting new school year goals and getting last-minute school supplies.
Local Families Share Their Experiences
April Landry, a Bentonville mom of two students heading back to school next week, shared her biggest worry this back-to-school season: getting the right supplies for her children’s classes. “They don’t send out the typical school supply list like they used to. They only have these generic lists. And if you just get what’s on the generic list, you never have what your kid needs,” Landry said.
Landry’s children are enrolled in the Bentonville Schools District. She advised her daughter in high school to focus on being herself and not trying too hard to make friends, as friends come naturally. Meanwhile, her advice to her son was to be selective with friends and spend time with people who are a good influence.
