Azzi Fudd No. 1 to Wings, reunites with Paige Bueckers on $500K deal

I’ll break down tonight’s WNBA matchup between the Dallas Wings and the Chicago Sky, look at the roster moves that matter, note injury impacts in Chicago, explain why Dallas is my pick to cover, and point you to where to follow more betting thoughts from David, including his X/Twitter handle. This piece references Azzi Fudd, Paige Bueckers, Alanna Smith, Arike Ogunbowale, Angel Reese, Rickea Jackson, the Dallas Wings and the Chicago Sky.

We get spoiled in America with sports every night, and WNBA matchups have become must-see events for anyone who likes solid basketball and betting value. The Dallas Wings upgraded heavily this offseason and the attention on them is well deserved. Their young core and key acquisitions have created a pulse you can feel even in early April games.

Dallas used the last two drafts to reshape the roster, landing Azzi Fudd and putting her alongside Paige Bueckers, which gives them a unique offensive foundation. They also added Alanna Smith to shore up a defense that was a real gap last season. Those moves were smart and addressable problems head-on.

On paper the Wings are only 2-2, but early records seldom tell the full story in a season of lineup changes and new coaching directions. Smith is settling in and currently averaging 4.3 points, and Fudd’s 20 percent mark from three is an obvious outlier for a shooter expected to improve. Given time and rhythm, both should climb, and that makes Dallas scary down the stretch of games.

I freely admit I misread the Chicago Sky this year. I doubted their roster construction after a lot of turnover, and I didn’t expect them to click early. They surprised me, but their momentum took a blow when Rickea Jackson tore her ACL and is out for the season. Losing Jackson removes a reliable scoring piece and forces a different offensive script for head coach and players alike.

The Sky still have veterans who understand how to win and can stabilize the ship, but who will fill Jackson’s minutes and shot attempts is the big question. Rickea’s absence likely distributes scoring across more players, which can be workable but also makes their offense less predictable in a bad way. If Chicago struggles to replace those points, it tilts the matchup toward Dallas.

I usually shy away from taking a road favorite, but this matchup checks a few boxes that make the Wings a play worth backing. Dallas has superior shooting and playmaking at the highest levels on their roster, and Chicago’s recent injury shrinks their margin for error. The Wings’ balance means multiple players can hurt the Sky, not just one star, and that depth matters late in games.

I like Dallas to win and cover the -3.5. I’m only leaning toward the over, not fully committed, because Chicago’s offense could dip without Jackson, even though both teams can score. For bettors wanting one clean pick, the Wings minus the spread is my choice for this game.
