Australian federal and state police, together with the domestic intelligence agency, have opened an investigation into an Omani co‑pilot for FlyDubai who spent time in Australia about a decade ago. The pilot, currently held in the United Arab Emirates after an alleged attempt to seize an Israel‑bound aircraft, is being scrutinised for any links to Australia, officials said.
Authorities noted that the man arrived on a student visa in 2014, began university studies in 2015, left the country in 2017 and had his visa cancelled in 2019 after it was confirmed he was no longer enrolled.
Israel bars UK Green Party leader
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar announced that Zack Polanski, the leader of Britain’s Green Party, is prohibited from entering Israel. Saar described the party’s recent conference resolution, which labeled Zionism as a form of racism and called for a single democratic Palestinian state in historic Palestine, as a “clear antisemitic text.”
Polanski, who was campaigning for the parliamentary seat once held by former Prime Minister Keir Starmer, responded that supporting Palestinian rights does not conflict with supporting Jewish rights.
Trilateral defense cooperation meeting in Riyadh
Foreign and defense ministers from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey gathered in Riyadh to discuss the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, signed on Aug. 7, which pledges that an armed attack on any one of the three nations will be treated as an attack on all.
The meeting, part of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee, also addressed recent developments in Yemen, where the internationally recognized government, backed by Saudi Arabia, has launched a major operation against Iran‑backed Houthi rebels.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry said the participants would review ongoing cooperation under the Mecca Agreement and consider the latest regional security dynamics.
